Lake County closed with a late run to end the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team’s season 59-57 in the quarterfinals of the Region IV District D tournament Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The No. 4-seeded Chargers finished their season with a 13-16 record. Fifth-seeded Lake County (19-11) advances to face No. 1 seed Moraine Valley in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday on the campus of Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby.

The game marked the final contest for Sandburg coach Mike Bailey, who has spent the last 23 seasons with the Chargers men’s and women’s basketball programs. Bailey announced earlier this season he would step down as coach and move into an academic advising role at Sandburg.
